A Red Hat log on problem

I have two harddrives which I can alternate by using a HDD docking bay. On one drive I have Mandrake 9 which is working well apart from a kernel problem which I will detail in another thread.

I have tonight installed Red Hat 7.1 (twice) on the second drive but I cannot get into it. The logon requester appears and asks for the login name which I duly enter then it asks for the password which I enter and it shows Login Failed. The information is exactely as I enetered it during install but it fails everytime.

Being a complete newbie at Linux what do I do to overcome the problem... another install?

Try booting into single mode, then execute "grep /etc/passwd -e <username>", which should return the line with the username you entered, meaning the user is known. If so try executing "less /var/log/messages" and scroll to about the time you tried to login. Then if there are any error messages about logging in I guess they will be prefixed with either "login" or something starting with "pam".
If the user is not known in passwd, then you'll have to add it again, if the log shows errors, try posting 'em here.

Thank you all who replied. The problem here is with the keyboard operator... ME! After entering the admin password and my name and my password there is a little button named 'ADD'... need I say more?

Thank you again
