a minimalist distro for which you don't have to compile software?


I mean a distro which comes with just the basic drivers (sound, ethernet etc) and a browser pre-installed. you download and install everything else you need. But they do not need to be compiled, as in slackware.

Arch is a fantastic "minimalist" distro that everyone should try at least once.

At the other end of the spectrum is SliTaz, also highly recommended (and only 30mb!).

Really though, most distros (even the sometimes-accused-of-being "bloated" Ubuntu) have a minimal install option.

At least, Debian was like that when I used it last.
