Xubuntu extreme lag problem iMac G3 600MHz

Hey everyone,

I recently repartitioned my imac to make 3GB of space free to install Xubuntu PPC, it installed just fine.

But when I boot it up, it just stops at the (initramfs) screen.

I can get past this by typing 'modprobe ide-core' and then 'exit'.

xubuntu loads up really slow, then runs at normal speed at the login screen, i put in my username and password and it takes about 10 minutes to a half an hour to log me in.

Then when it's loaded up i move the mouse and it takes about 15 seconds for the cursor to move. From what i can see, the screen refreshes every 15 seconds or so.

I have been using linux for a while and though i dont consider myself an expert, i know a bit more than most computer users.

The graphics card is an ATI RAGE 128 Pro if that helps.

Any help with solving this issue would be appreciated greatly.

In /boot/grub/menu.lst add all_generic_ide to the kernel... line.

post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

your driver should be ati
