Xorg dual head layout switch without X restart

Hi All,

I have a dual-head set-up - Thinkpad T60, i950 - with the following X server layout options:
a) Using only the LCD display
b) Using the LCD and an external monitor in Xinerama mode
I was already able to create two xorg.conf files that work in each of these modes. I can switch from one to the other by changing the xorg.conf file and restarting X.

I'm now trying to find out if there is any way in which I can switch from one configuration to another WITHOUT having to restart X, the same way I can do it in Windows by enabling/disabling the second screen.
I'm guessing that it may be possible since this is not all that different from dynamically switching resolutions with ctrl-alt-+/- but I don't seem to be able to find any reference on how to do this.

Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Julian

re: Xorg dual head layout switch

From a terminal, `xrandr` to view the resolution options. `xrandr -s #` where # is one of the left-hand column values.
