x11 forward display+ssh+putty

Hello All,

This is my first post on this forum but this forum has inspired me for a long while now

I have a situation that I cannot solve. I am running a vm on centOS running sshd.

from another debian system I can easily do ssh -x bla bla, start firefox or whatever application and it works with no issue.

From another windows machine, I am trying to do the same thing, with putty, with the required options (ssh -> x11 -> enable forwarding and tunneling) and it is not working. I receive the error: Error: no display specified

sshd_config:

X11Forwarding yes
X11DisplayOffset 10

all operations done with root.

Is there some trick with putty that I don't know? I haven't used windows for a long time now..

To get that working you need an X server for your Windows machine. I have never tried that, but from what I have read the one in Cygwin, Cygwin/X, should work.

Hi Tobi,

I already installed an x server on the windows wm .. well I will try to dig more. It was just a test so I have time to search for it and experiment.

Maybe there is somebody that succeeded with this and is willing to paste a link or a hint

Thanks.

I have had some success with Xming. No license squabbles as it it from sourceforge.

ssh -X back to Xming...no issues.
