WM Problems

I realise the thread title isn't exactly helpful, but this covers two different WM's.
Also if you've been reading my thread in the Ubuntu section about making it lightweight, you already know the situation.

First up is OpenBox. When attempting to log into a pure OpenBox session (Not OpenBox/Gnome) the screen flickers once or twice, then returns to GDM. I've not found any reason for this, or any fix.

Second, and currently the last, is FVWM-Crystal
As far as I can tell, it's meant to have some menu or something which lists the installed applications, but I can't find them.
I also tried to make Avant Window Navigator fill in for that, and the apparant lack of a notification area, but was told that there actually was a notification area. Would help to know where it is.
Finally, I can't find any way to start my network manager (Wicd) in FVWM-Crystal.

I'm hoping someone might be able to help with at least the OpenBox problems, as I'd like to finally get to try it.

(Please note - At present, changing Distro is NOT an option for me. Please avoid suggesting it. Thank you.)

Did you check the contents of ~/.xsession-errors ?

You'll have to look into your ~/.fvwm directory and edit the menues file or the file where the menuentries are defined. Within the .fvwm directory try
Code:
grep -i addtomenu *
The entries are selfexplanatory.
