Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

The problem is: The font it uses for formulas is getting the wrong font. It's using some symbol font that is unreadable.
Launch the Wine Config. There you can specify the font you want to use for the application.
Before doing so be sure your wine installation was built with ms-corefonts and fontforge if not then you may add by installing them.

WineConfig was run before fontforge was installed.
I have since installed fontforge, and the ttf-mscorefonts are also installed.
When I load " $ winecfg ", I can't find any information about fonts? (well, i see a Font... dialog button on the Desktop Integration tab, but no way to enable it. It seems I would have to Install theme first, but I don't have any themes.
Output of fontforge:
Copyright (c) 2000-2011 by George Williams.
Executable based on sources from 13:48 GMT 22-Feb-2011-ML.
Library based on sources from 13:48 GMT 22-Feb-2011.
Failed to create a fontset for the input method
(It does run, but shows a the dialog and this in BG).
Winecfg looks exactly like it did before installing fontforge
