Why teams of gnome and kde want to send us to the user's school every six months?
 

New funcionalities are welcome, of course, but a total change of conception every six months is not the best way to push people to use linux.

Exaggerate much? There were 6 years between the first release of KDE 3 and and the first release of KDE 4. There were 9 years between the first release of GNOME 2 and the first release of GNOME 3. These are the only times when anything that could be described as a "total change of conception" actually happened.

Hardly timespans that could be reasonably rounded off to 6 months.

The reason for the U[I, E, X] redesigns, of course, is, that the dev teams felt that the new designs would be an improvement.

@ enparo, Gnome and KDE spend most, 99%, of the time evolving. Apart from, as Dugan points out, the releases of KDE 4 and Gnome 3 (which some would say are complete changes but in actual fact they are not, the look and feel of both DEs is a slow process of quiet evolution.

Gnome 3 is, in essence, still very similar for the majority of its visible structure with only the initial interface being the main visible change. If you used fallback mode (which is similar in look and feel to Gnome 2) you probably wouldn't even have started this thread yet everything in fallback mode is using the same structure (apart from the initial visible interface) as Gnome shell.

As dugan said, it has been a long time since there has been anything that could be consider a "total change of conception". But I understand that people in general are resistant to change. Maybe due to the long span between changes people become very comfortable with what they have. However everything, especially in technology, evolves and changes.

Personally I really like Gnome 3. I welcome creative changes that can separate Linux from looking like a Windows knock off. I thought this should have happened sooner. But if you don't like it you can always go to Gnome fallback mode that has a more Gnome 2 look. Or you can try out other desktops. This is the great thing about Linux. If you don't like something, you can change it.
