Why I just can get higher resolution as rooter??

I am using debian and have a headache problem to get a higher resolution for my new screen.
The old resolution is 1024*768, now I want to get 1280*1024. I add mode line in xorg.conf file. It likes this:

Code:
# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

The problem is caused by the driver..
I tried the nv driver to configure xorg.conf and it works ...

Now I get the higher resolution...

I'm glad to hear that you got it working!

You might want to change the labels for the modelines you created to distinguish one from the other.
For example:
Code:
  # 1280x1024 @ 60.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 63.60 kHz; pclk: 108.88 MHz
  Modeline "1280x1024_60" 108.88 1280 1360 1496 1712 1024 1025 1028 1060 -HSync +Vsync

jschiwal@hpmedia:/lib/modules/2.6.25.11-0.1-default/source/fs/ntfs> gtf 1280 1024 70 -x

  # 1280x1024 @ 70.00 Hz (GTF) hsync: 74.62 kHz; pclk: 128.94 MHz
  Modeline "1280x1024_70" 128.94 1280 1368 1504 1728 1024 1025 1028 1066 -HSync +Vsync
Then you can have "1280x1024_60" "1280x1024_70" in the screen -> display sections. Otherwise you may only have the first frequency
settings.

Also, just so you know, lines with errors in Xorg.log begin with "(EE)". Lines with warnings begin with "(WW)", so you can use grep
to filter through just these lines:
Code:
egrep '^\(EE\)|\(WW\)' /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/local" does not exist.
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/PEX" does not exist.
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/latin2/misc" does not exist.
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/latin2/75dpi" does not exist.
...
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1280x800"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1280x768"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1280x720"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1280x600"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "1024x600"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): No valid modes for "768x576"; removing.
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Option "CalcAlgorithm" is not used
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Option "PreferredMode" is not used
Then you don't have to post the entire log.
