Question where is the ffmpeg command line tool?

I have instaled the Mplayer and read before in the FFmpeg site about the command line tool ffmpeg for video capture. But have not encountered, when I enter 'ffmpeg' in the terminal receive a message: command not found. And more a question somebody knows a program for video capture (not DV capture but analogic with BT878)wich works fine in Fedora Core 6?

Thanks in advance.

I think that you may be confusing ffmpeg with mencoder. Mencoder is supplied with mplayer. For ffmpeg you need to install it separately.

rpm -qf $(which ffmpeg)
ffmpeg-0.4.9-8.pm.svn20070208

I don't know which distro you use, but take a look in the forum on this website that matches your distro. For example, is you have SuSE, then look in the SuSE/Novell forum, for a sticky about adding a repository that has package versions that allow you to play MP3s or purchased DVDs.

By the way, the Member intro section isn't the best place to post a problem. The moderator might move it to a section so it gets better exposure.

p.s. It is also a good idea to put your distro in the user profile. That will solicit distro specific advice which may be easier.

That is an example on my system. Try searching for ffmpeg on the http://rpm.pbone.net website. Go to advanced search, deselect all, the click both the Fedora Core 6 and Fedora Core Other boxes. Hopefully you will find a packages listed. The first link will take you to a page that lists the contents of the package, and will have one or more links to the package (along with links to required packages if you need them). Consider the one that has "livna".

I just did a google search for livna. You want to look in this website for intructions on adding a livna repository so that next time you will be able to find a package. http://rpm.livna.org/
