Video Driver for ATI
 

Hi ,

I am having a confusion on which driver i should be using for my ATI card . I have an Integrated ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 Video Card . and also i was able to download the driver form .

But the article that i find from the below link scared me, how can i find the appropriate Video driver for my display card .

Currently everything is working fine under my Fedora 9 , but i am not able to play any video , i am getting the

X11 error: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)?,?% 0 0

and i decided to install the driver , please help me in getting the appropriate driver .

Note the date on that post - February 22nd, 2006. More than 2-1/2 years ago.

I use the "proprietary" ATI drivers for my integrated video card, and I've never had any problems with them. My suggestion, which isn't the most popular, it to just use what works, and use the ATI-provided drivers.

I never messed about with configuring X on a Fedora install (when I used to run it), simply because it usually had no qualms when it came to auto-detecting and automagically configuring my video card.

I wanted to install because i am not able to View any Video on my Linux box .

Yes - install the ATI driver. It will also configure your Xorg.conf file for you.

The proprietary fglrx ATI driver is currently the best choice. The problem you described is a known bug with fedora. See, for example, here https://bugs.launchpad.net/fedora/+bug/111257 It also suggests some workarounds that might work for you. With MPlayer you can also use -vo x11 option to watch movies.

Thanks for the reply ... I tried running mplayer using the option mplayer -vo X11 and it worked but the movie resolution is low and I cant watch them in my full screen .

and in some other article I saw that fglrx is the module for ATI card and it is missing from livna repository .. where can we get that so as to give a try .....

I installed a new display card nVidia Geforce 8500 GT and the issues are solved .
