Unable to start Konqueror, unless started as root

When i click on the Konqueror Icon I get the message "Starting Konqueror" which then dissapears after around 30 seconds.

I always use the KDE environment in Mandrake, and am relitively new to linux. I have another icon which i have named "root browser" which runs "kdesu konqueror /" and works. Could it be to do with permissions?

The normal icon may have been set up as "kfmclient openURL %u"

Does anyone have any ideas which might help?

Any Comments?

The reason this is a problem is that I cannot open any folders or mounted drives- as KDE always tries to launch Konqueror.

Any comments would be appreciated, even if they may not be entirely relevent.

Thanks

Does it give you any error messages if started from a terminal window?

Newbie question: How do I do that, do I need to browse to the folder konqerer is stored in using terminal? Where would that be?

After looking at:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=287406

I realised that my problem only comes into effect after plugging in my 1GB SanDisk cruzer mini drive- only that i use this all the time.

Strange.. no idea what could cause that

To run konq from terminal, just start kterm and type 'konqueror' to the prompt.
Another place you could check out for error messages is the .xsession-errors file in your home directory (note the dot at the beginning, i.e. its a hidden file).
