Thanks for the quick response. I installed Xming (all default settings), In PuTTy, I enabled X11 port forwarding and enabled X11 forwarding in my sshd conf file.
I am now able to run emacs & xclock.
I still can't run startx from PuTTy. Is just typing startx sufficient? No switches needed?
What exactly are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to have your complete desktop over ssh? If so, I think you have to use a different type of solution.
X over SSH I believe only allows individual applications to be run locally, thereby letting you run programs from your linux box while on your XP box. If you want something more like Remote Desktop for XP, I think you need something more like VNC or FreeNX (I'm sure there are others too).
