A lot of linux distributions (including fedora) don't include mp3 support for legal reasons, there's packages available that can provide it pretty easily. I don't use fedora so I don't know exactly which ones you should look for but it should be pretty easy to find with a little google searching.

If you can connect the computer to the internet temporarily I imagine you could probably install packages real quick using yum (the package manager). Otherwise you'll have to download the packages using a different computer and transfer and install them on your own.

hi ...

Fedora won't ship MP3-capable software because the Fraunhofer Institute's patent license terms are not compatible with the GPL.

You can download plugins from from gurulabs or can search for
xmms-mp3-1.2.10-16.i386.rpm in google..

To install xmms and make it MP3-capable, start by doing this:

yum install xmms xmms-mp3

You can also search for Fedora Multimedia Installation HOWTO at tldp

I wound up finding http://brandonhutchinson.com/Fedora_Helper.html which was great.
