ubuntu unable to detect windows partion

Hi frnds,

I have installed windows xp earlier in my desktop pc. Now due to virus my system is in sever trouble that it could even able to boot, it is showing something "loading operatin system..." message. I decided to reinstall the windows, however I have all important data stored in the windows partition.
I donot want to lose any of the data.

I tried something, I tried to access the windows partition from ubuntu live CD with the idea that I will keep back up for my needed folders and file which are in C drive. This idea too did not worked, reason the ubuntu is unable to detect the hard disk partition. Now I am really shortage of any further idea. Please suggest me some idea.

Thanx,
Jaynarayan.

Hi repo,

Thanks for response. The ubuntu 7.XX was unable to detect the windows partions, however the version 8.XX detected some of the partions. Due to filesystem corruption in windows C drive it was not mounting, so I was not able to read the data from C drive. At last I have to format the C drive and reinstalled the windows OS. Now its working fine.

If you can tell me something on "Due to filesystem corruption in windows C drive it was not mounting" I will be happy.

Thank you,
Jaynarayan.
