Ubuntu - Changed from GDM to KDM now logout doesn't work.

Hi,

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with the Gnome Desktop, but have changed the login manager to KDM instead of GDM. But now when I logout it brings me to a console login. If I reboot the machine it will show KDM fine but not if I just logout.

Does anyone know a fix for this? Have a missed out a package?

Check your inittab. It sounds like your particular config may want "respawn" for your xdm.

Thanks for your reply but I am slightly confused.

I have an init folder in /etc

This has various files, for example kdm.conf etc

Is it within these files I am looking? Or is it something else?

Ahhh Apparently Ubuntu doesn't use inittab anymore it uses upstart. So I will have a look at that.

Ok problem solved!

Found this on the Arch Linux forums.

You have to go to /etc/kde4/kdm/

Open kdmrc

Find the line that says

[X-:*-Core]

Underneath put:

TerminateServer=true

Reboot and it is fixed.
