Question Ubuntu 8.10 no logging on to desktop...?

i just installed ubuntu 8.10 on a computer, that the windows activation period expired. installed 8.10 100 times before. did it the same way as always. get to log-in screen enter user/pass and then nothing... it acts as if it wants to load the desktop but it wont...please help..


not a Linux expert...

check the install media

boot it in recovery mode and fix x

Also post output of

#lspci -vv
