Question Ubuntu 6.06 showing a .dat file as a video/mpeg insted of application

I am trying to load a program using wine. It needs a key file to install. I was able to install this program in Mandriva 2006. Is there anyway to change the way Ubuntu sees this file so that I can install the program? Thanks for your time, Randall.

Randall,

I would suggest trying to run it from the command line, or right click and 'open with' (which is available at least on Kubuntu).

To run it from the command line, you would open a terminal and run 'wine Desktop/filename.dat' if the file is on your Desktop.

Good luck.
