Ubuntu 12 audio not working after xinitrc customization

Hi all,

I am customizing my Ubuntu 12 install to use as an HMI interface and for this I am starting my app from ".xinitrc" file. I am running this app as a non-root user.

Audio output is required for the app's alarm system. But once I customize xinitrc audio is not working. These are the stuff I tried:

1) Installed espeak ( text to speech ). I get audio when I run espaek as root. But not otherwise.
2) I added "/usr/bin/start-pulseaudio-x11" in xinitrc
3) added the user to the group "audio".

Still no audio

Any help will be appreciated.
