Smile Ubuntu 12.04- Need help installing Canon MF6550 printer driver. - Linux newb.

Hello!
Brand new member here and only second day ever using Linux. I am trying to get my printer (Canon MF6550) to work. Canon's website has a driver for Linux but I don't know how to install it.

Any help would be much appreciated. Seriously.

Thanks, Aaron
PS. I suppose I should say that I'm an intermediate user in the Windows environment. I can follow directions pretty well though.

If you've downloaded, try clicking on the file in the file manager. It should be a .deb package or an installer program, but either way Linux will know what to do.

Thank you so much David.. I was able to install the driver but there still seems to be a problem. But at least the computer and printer are talking to each other.

Thanks again.

Canon support for linux is very limited, it's even stated on your driver package
Quote:
UFR II Printer Driver for Linux Version 2.60 03/04/13 63.51 MB
File Name: Linux_UFRII_PrinterDriver_V260_us_EN.tar.gz

This Linux driver package includes code components that were not written by Canon USA or its affiliates. In addition, Linux exists in many different versions, and the driver cannot be tested against all of them. Thus, Canon USA is not able to provide ...
