ubuntu 11.4 prob

I am building my htpc. mb -Foxconn M61PMV, Amd 4200, (have it around the house from a previous build) Samsung 500 gb 2x1 gb Rendition 5300

I want to use use ubuntu 11.4 as the os. I keep running to problems with the installation. I tried a thumb drive, dvd and keep getting a purple screen, that just hangs. The hd is formatted. I installed win 7 64 bit on to it, then try the installation again. Well now when I select Ubuntu as the os , I see this
[drm] nouvea 0000:02:00.0 Register 0x0004030 not found in pll limits table.I am a noob to ubuntu.

Hi. What I miss here is: How long did you wait before stopping the "purple screen"?
You might try booting from the CD, then on first appearance of the purple screen press escape and in the menu choose to test the CD/DVD. Boot to a working live session might take quite long, a setup even much longer.
Did you create a live CD or an "alternative" CD? The latter one cannot be used for live sessions.

If you want dual boot with windows, better install that first and then install Ubuntu. The grub bootloader will take care of the rest.

Good luck!
Pjotr
