Just a thought Brad, have a look at the configuration editor, Applications > System Tools > Configuration Editor. If it's not there, then yum install gconf-editor. It will be there then.

Thanks for the reply and help on this

Gnome has certainly had a reputation for being difficult to customize, and I am learning that

The gconf-editor didn't have it listed as editable, it is a schema, and when you try to edit it says "Not customizable in this distribution"

I tried:
Code:
[root@xps-m1710 ~]# gconftool-2 --set /tooltips_enabled --type=string false

[root@xps-m1710 ~]# gconftool-2 -R / | grep tooltip
 tooltips_enabled = false
     tooltip =
     tooltip =
     tooltip =
     tooltip =
     tooltip =
     tooltip =
    tooltips_enabled = true
--- So I am thinking I have the wrong path since the preceeding "/" seems to put the tooltips_enabled I edited over one or more to the left...so I need to dig through the gnome tree to find where that dang string is set

--- Luckily I haven't configured much on gnome -- I get the feeling the gnome developers aren't very friendly either, I asked a few questions on severla gnome threads and got some very catty replies.

ahh...I guess this is what we get when Gnu/Linux grows up into adulthood, I just miss the old days when folks were actually friendly and helpful

Thanks for all your help and reply Glennzo!!
