Question Trouble using Canon printer in Peppermint OS 3

I'm having trouble using my printer.

As suggested by the title, the distro install is Peppermint OS 3.
The kernel version is 3.2.0-23-generic.

The driver I'm using can be found on this page.

Installing the *.deb files and setting up the printer doesn't work.

I can reinstall the system but this will wipe all configurations.

Is your printer not working at all, or working partially?

Also, what is the model of the specific printer?

I could not find a listing for that specific model (Imageclass MF4150 based on the link) at the Open Printing Database.

There's a thread at LinuxForums dot org that might offer some hope.

Canon is not well-known for its support of Linux.

I've done a reinstall to try to correct this but that didn't work. I can still print from in Windows although that's not an optimal solution - I've just submitted a bug report having to do with use of this driver to www.cups.org.

I'd like to know if there is some possible workaround for this.

New details: I'm now running Debian 7.2.0 64 bit, Linux version 3.2.0-4-amd64.

Thanks
