Unhappy System hang when run application through wine

Hello,

I am a very new user of Linux. I am Cyber Cafe owner where almost all of my customers are Windows users.
But I want to Install Linux OS on my machines. After considering the comfort of Windows user I have Installed Zorin OS 7 on my machine.

I need some of Windows application to use for basic functioning of cafe like Internet Explorer. Most of the educational and government sites open in IE 7 or above only.

After reading on internet I tried to Install IE through PlayonLinux. The installation is going through well. But when i am trying to run it, system is getting hang and it shows random color lines. After that no other function work. I need to directly power off the switch and restart PC again.
This is happening with other applications also. I am trying to install ACDSee trial verion but same thing is happening. It is also happening when I am trying to open Windows games like Counter Strike.

I have ASUS M2N86-AM motherboard with AMD Athlon X2 processor and 2GB of RAM.

Please help me to solve this. I dont want to go back to Windows again.
Thanks in Advance.

In my opinion you should use Windows if you want to use Internet Explorer or Windows games.

IE is arguably the worst browser ever invented; if an institution's website requires IE7 then I have no sympathy for that organization since they obviously do not care about the safety/security/privacy/convenience of their users.

Finding a system hang is not always easy. Hardware or software could be the cause. One might use performance tools like top to view processes in near real time. One might use logs in /var to see if any errors are reported. One might use memtest or other hardware diags to prove or help prove hardware. One might set bios to more safe settings, slower ram speeds or such. One might use a different linux distro to help decide if the OS is at fault.
Guess you could try this script too in case you made a mistake on install.

For the most part the " IE 7 or above only." is a BIG RED SIGN saying that the "bleeping" software developers for the site were GARBAGE .

Firefox will run just fine on most of the sites

then you have the IE8 compatibility list
Microsofts own web site DOSE NOT WORK IN IE8 !!!!

most of the time it is some "will NEVER work" DRM scheme that is using MS's "silverlight" and " dot net framework"

and on those sites "pipeline" can be used

but it sounds from your first post
that installing legal licensed copies of windows7 ( yes that is $100+ for EVERY machine)
is your best bet

Hello,

Thank you for your replies on my problem.@snowpine and John VV.. going back to Windows is the worst and last option for me. I dont want to do that. one of the major reason behind it is cost and OS. I like Linux.
But because of nature of my customers and conditions put by some important sites to use Windows applications like IE. I am looking for parallel way in Linux.

I will try to use the link provided by jefro.

Thank you all once again for your concern and time for replying me.

Any other solutions welcomed.

if you can post a list of " must 100% work" in firefox 26

things like Microsoft.com
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/default.aspx

do work in firefox on a linux os

now
Major league baseball ??????

hullu+ or netflix will work with "pipline" or a custom netflix player

if at all possible do not even try to get internet explorer installed
( WINE dose normally come with a custom hacked version of ( i think ) IE4 ( ie4 is from 2001 )
but getting plugins to install ?????
or getting microsoft media player to work in that version of IE ??
-- do not count on it

using firefox and the Mplayer "geko" media plugin works of 99.99% of the web
that 0.01 % is locked up behind silverlight DRM
( the same DRM that microsoft WANTS TO KILL OFF, but Hollywood will not let them .

http://www.mkcl.ws/puext/default.asp

works just fine if you use the firefox plugin " user agent switcher" and set it to IE8
here is a screenshot
http://imgbox.com/aciexVYB

and every major distro has at least one built in photomanager
there a ton like acdsee

Hi John,

My problem related to Internet Explorer seems to be solved. Thanks to you

But I am still facing one problem.
I have installed Kubuntu 12.04 on one computer. If I run games like Counter Strike or GTA SA it is running well. But if I run same games on Zorin 7 or Mint 16 the PC gives random color patches on screen and system get hang. After that the only option is power off the switch and again start the PC.

What could be the problem? I tried to install Video Drivers but that didnt solved my problem.

I am using Asus M2N68-AM motherboard with AMD Athlon X2 processor and 2GB of RAM.

Please guide to solve this problem.

Thank you in advance.

well you might want to start a new thread for this
but

what video cards ?
Nvidia or ATI

moving from the opensource Nvidia "Nouveau" driver to the nvidia.run proprietary
requires a bit of work
and rebuilding of the boot image and blacklisting of the old driver

the ATI cards also require a bit of work move from the opensource driver ( installed by default ) to the closed source proprietary driver

Hi John,

Its Nvidia drivers. M/B is ahveing NVIDIA Geforce 7025/nForce 630a Chipset.

I used additional drivers feature to update the drivers.

I am new to Linux and find it difficult to do following suggestion of yours...

"moving from the opensource Nvidia "Nouveau" driver to the nvidia.run proprietary
requires a bit of work
and rebuilding of the boot image and blacklisting of the old driver"

Can you guide me to do this?

Kubuntu is a great choice for beginner users, if it is working OK then my advice is to stick with it.
