Hello I'm thinking of switching from powernowd to kernel CPU frequency scaling and would like LQ's comments; is it a good idea? Reasons for making the change are One less init script to run at boot. The "CPU frequency scaling monitor" applet only ever shows 100% and 52%. If the information is correct it cannot mean optimal power saving. Better mechanisms are now available. Powernowd development stopped in Jan 08 with the maintainer saying "the 'ondemand' kernel governor seems to be the way moving forward". Some good looking HOWTOs, best found so far http://www.pantz.org/software/cpufre...eqonlinux.html. The system is ubuntu 8.04.2 with kernel 2.6.24-24-generic. Best Charles
