stting up fax modem in ubuntu 9.10
I've just installed efax-gtk-3.0.17 but it doesn't seem to recognise my internal modem or ubuntu doesn't. Does anyone have experience in this area?
When I do lshw I get the following info about the modem *-communication UNCLAIMED description: Communication controller product: HSF 56k HSFi Modem vendor: Conexant Systems, Inc. physical id: 0 bus info: pci@0000:04:00.0 version: 01 width: 32 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: pm bus_master cap_list configuration: latency=64 resources: memory:febf0000-febfffff ioport:ec00(size=8) My system is 64 bit by the way. Could that effect things? Does this mean ubuntu hasn't recognised the hardware? Any ideas how I can get it working? - |

As I see it, you've got two choices. You can buy a cheap, external fax/modem, and plug it in via serial port (or USB to serial converter works just as well), and it'll just work from there. Or, you can go to the Linuxant site, spend $20 on their Linux driver, and make the one you've got work. Be warned, though...their driver will be tied to ONE machine. If you upgrade your hardware, it'll be tied to the modem/setup you have now, and you'll have to spring another $20 for a new license. |
I've now found this thread...
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=190728 Which seems to indicate that there are free drivers. I don't have time to deal with it now, but I'll report back when I do. - |
