Stop nvidia from being upgraded

Folks: There is a huge amount of upgrades needing done on my system, but yet I cannot allow it to happen, for it screws up my system every single time.

It seems to be targeting the nvidia video driver, and if I try to stop it from upgrading though synaptic, some of the files will not 'unmark'

So how can I upgrade without screwing with nvidia?

System is: Debian 7.5/32b
XFCE current

Try blacklisting the nvidia drivers from updating.

These two links should help:

https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsDrivers

Thank you very much. I'll try that in a couple of days once I'm done with this client's work.

Looks to be fairly easy and exactly what I'm looking for. The nvidia driver, and GRUB is two landmines in my system. GRUB finally has been fixed with Grub rescue, I hope this solves the nvidia problem.

Just a quick note: I was correct about the problem. To fix it, and to help others:

BE SURE TO IMAGE YOUR SYSTEM FIRST!

At the command line

Code:
su
<pw>
echo "nvidia-alternative hold" | dpkg --set-selections
echo "nvidia-driver hold" | dpkg --set-selections
echo "nvidia-kernel-dkms hold" | dpkg --set-selections
echo "nvidia-vdpau-driver hold" | dpkg --set-selections

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
shutdown now -r
