sound problems with skype on mandriva
I'm having problems with Skype (1.2.0.21) on Mandriva (LX 2006) on my Dell inspiron laptop. The skype version was installed from the Skype webpage not mandriva's own. My soundcard works fine in Amarok but Skype reports that I have sound device errors and won't allow me to call. I have an ICH4 845G/GL Chipset AC'97 Audio Controller and I'm using an ALSA driver, the module is snd-intel8x0. ALSA configuration appears to be OK. Reinstalation of Skype did not help.
I've searched for this problem in google and none of the solutions there have helped me. Thanks for any help |
You might try installing the different versions that Skype has, I had a similar problem with skype on my system and downgrading to an older version of skype got it working perfectly for me.

Hello there and welcome to LQ. Hope you like it here.
My soundcard works fine in Amarok but Skype reports that I have sound device errors Exactly what error messages? If it's any DSP messages you *may* need skype_dsp_hijacker. |
Thanks for the idea of downgrading to an older version. I tried the version that came with the mandriva CDs and the latest one and I get the same problem, even when I do the echo test.
Which version of Skype did you use? Basically, when i dial Skype will not connect me and I get the message "problem with sound device". When someone calls me I know that my computer recieves an incoming call but it is silent and I can't answer. It also only says "problem with sound device". I don't know what a DSP message is. I'll try to look it up on google Thanks |

I'm using version 1.3.0.30 (beta) that supports ALSA and it works fine on Debian(etch) on my Dell C640 laptop.
