software installation


Is there a "how-to" that explain some standards of sotfware installations on linux? or can you give some tips for install the application?, I use ubuntu, debian and mandrake; thanks

Debian and derived distros (like Ubuntu) typically use APT to install packages from repositories (collections of binary packages). There are several command line tools (apt-get, aptitude) and graphical interfaces (synaptic, adept) to APT.

Not sure about Mandrake, but I assume it has something similar.
