slow and sluggish gnome + emerald

hey everyone,

I have emerald installed in gnome, as well as compiz-fusion...

compiz runs fine, the cube spins properly...

but im finding that things like right click menu's, toolbar menu take almost a full second to show...minimising and maximising windows is also really jumpy...and its almost impossible to resize a window...when i go to click and drag it just hangs for 3-4 seconds and then slowly resises, and this is if it resises at all...

does anyone know of anything like this, and how i can prevent it...

um running ubuntu 7.0.4, with nvidia 8600gts, and the drivers are installed fine, as i am having no problems with compiz...

Cheers,

compiz-fusion is really new and in heavy development - probably, even if you solve these problems, you'll find other bugs at a later stage. If you absolutely want to have a stable environment you should consider using an older version. I am using beryl + emerald, no XGL/AIXGL but using nVidia effects and it runs very well. The only problem is that the system uses 2-4% more CPU, making the battery of the notebook die ~10 minutes earlier. Installation was supereasy.
