Question Sharing media from Ubuntu 12.04 on PS3 and Windows 7 box

Okay, I'm pretty much a n00b to linux. So I installed Ubuntu on a box at home and I wanted to set it up as a secondary computer/media server. I've installed a DLNA server (MediaTomb--at least I think that's what that is) and I couldn't just access the box from my PS3. Additionally, I don't know how to access those files from my box or any other box in the house. What would be the easiest way to stream or to do that? I can further clarify if this explanation doesn't make sense...

Also, would it just be easier to install FreeBSD and then add on something like FreeNAS for the media sharing?
