sending keyboard events for voice activation

Hi,
I am trying to make my linux box (opensuse11, KDE4) listen to my commands. I am trying to use it for my tablet and also to setup a home theater system. I have pretty much set up the recognition part using HTK and Julius from voxforge.

The tricky part is, I need to send specific keyboard events depending on the application. Like, if the active window is OpenOffice Impress, the command "start slideshow" should send a keyboard event "F5". In browsers, forward and back should generate "Alt + ->" and "Alt + <-", etc.

It would be handy if such events can be generated using a simple bash script. Can anyone suggest the best option for doing this?

Thanks in advance!
