Seamonkey Sync "unknown error"

Based on an excellent suggestion from cwizardone, I've been playing with Seamonkey and am quite impressed, so much so that I tried to set up a Seamonkey Sync account.

When I try to create a new account and enter my email address, the "Create Account" dialog reports an "unknown error." I've tried with two valid email addresses on both Slackware and Windows.

The sync dialog does not offer any criteria for passwords, nor did the FAQs that I located; I tried with 24 character and 16 character passwords (generated by KeepassX) with upper and lower case and numbers. It seems to me that the "unknown error" with the email address is the root cause of the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas, or is it possible the Seamonkey Sync is having a bad day?

Thanks.

Update:

The only thing I've found so far is some indication that the sync may not work with Seamonkey v. 2.31.

I know this is quite an old post, but I can confirm that as 2016, in version 2.40 sync still won't work.
