Rsync through a VPN/SSH tunnel...

[Log in to get rid of this advertisement]
Hi.

Can rsync be started/stoped remotely through an ipsec VPN tunnel 'without' having to use SSH ?

Is SSH the 'only' way to initiate services and use commands remotely?

If I use a VPN tunnel and don't wish an SSH and rsync server to be 'on' all the time, how would I start/stop them from remote?

Thank you.

You don't need an rsync server, unless you cannot otherwise access the files with a valid (non-root) login.
