restoring /var directory after I manually deleted it in ubuntu 10.04


how to restore var directory after I deleted it,now cant run cmnds which involves apt utility as i have removed the /var structure completely and when rebooted after deleting i have no gui.

I'd go into the manually resoring...laborious, I know. The only "clean" way I can come up with is a reinstall...

How did that happen??? Only a Root can do this...

Maybe foremost can help, I dont know...

hi,
I think what you can do is run ubuntu with live cd or pendrive and copy the var directory to your root directory. I have never tried it but it seems it can resolve your problem. let me know the result also.
