Removing GNOME Menu Items

Hello. I would like to remove most items from the "System" menu of GNOME. I need to remove:
  • Log Out
  • Shut Down
  • Help
  • About GNOME
I intend to replace Log Out and Shut Down with my own scripts. The other two I simply don't need.

I've searched for this on Google quite a bit, I can't find it. Maybe it can't be done unless I recompile. Isn't there a way to do it without recompiling? I don't find it in gconf-editor.

Thanks in advance.

I forget the name of the application that you can use to lock down parts of Gnome. Google kiosk maybe the name of the app will appear in the results.

I don't want to lock down the items. I want to remove them completely.

UPDATE: I figured this out. Via gconf-editor:

/apps/panel/objects/menu_bar_screen0

menu_path applications:/
use_menu_path [checked]
