random desktop background in Gnome

Running Fedora Core 12, and Gnome for desktop manager. Is there a way to set a random background to change at a given interval? Say, any picture in a given directory, every hour.

Everything I can see about it just says to write a script to change it. That may be great for a programmer, but I can't do that.

Any info would be appreciated...

KDE vs. Gnome

That's in KDE. How do I do it in Gnome?

Wallpaper Tray.

Here are notes of installing 0.4.6 on ubuntu 8.04 on 2 Nov 08

Code:
1.apt-get install wallpaper-tray
2.ln -s /usr/share/gnome/apps/Applications/wp_tray.desktop /usr/share/applications/
3.Configured ~./wallpapers as wallpaper directory
4.Set change to 120 mins.
5.Gnome Control Centre, Personal, Sessions, Add
 	Name: Start Wallpaper Tray
 	Command: /usr/bin/wallpaper-tray
 	Comment: Starts Wallpaper Tray
No record of where steps 3 and 4 were done.

I didn't like Wallpaper Tray sitting in the Notification Area. Found it does not from version 5. Could not find a 5.x ubuntu package. Downloaded 5.5 source tarball but too many missing dependencies. Checked in case they are ready (with apt-show-versions -u) but not.

It's so much easier in Xfce which does not require any extra packages!

The ChangeWallpaper1.3 looked promising, but the "free" version apparently only grabs images from art.gnome.org, rather than my own shots.

I'm using Fedora (Core 12), so the Ubuntu package won't work. That program wasn't listed in the Fedora sources, so it looks like it's a Debian-only package.

Thanks for the suggestions, though. It was worth a shot. I guess I'll have to switch to KDE.

Look here; there seem to be quite a few wallpapertray packages for Fedora.
