It seems to me that files on a desktop (I have 6 desktops on my display) can be moved to another desktop during my work.
Is that even possible to happen?
And if so what is causing that curious behavour?
are you moving your window to the edge to just move it then it just slides over to the next window, or is this happening on its own when you're not looking?
The various desktops usually allow you to switch between desktops with a variety of shortcuts. For example on my system I can hold the mouse over the panel and then turn the scroll wheel. The screen will scroll rapidly through all of the desktops.
You can go into the desktop setup program and set all of the shortcuts to whatever you prefer. Or you can turn the shortcuts off if they are annoying you.
In KDE, you can right-click on the window titlebar or the icon in the taskbar to bring up a menu. One of the items in the menu is "Move to Desktop [selection]"
Also, in the KDE system settings-->Workspace Behavior-->Screen Edges, you can enable or disable dragging application windows from one virtual desktop to another.
