<SOLVED> Problem with Ubuntu 8.04 stuck each time I start browsing the net.

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased new computer and decided to try out Ubuntu 8.04.
After installing Ubuntu I try to surf the net for a while, after few minutes I encountered a problem:
It is as my computer was locked, I had no response from my keyboard or my mouse. The desktop didn't show any response, on the keyboard both the “caps lock” and “scroll lock” LEDs where permanently on (I searched the motherboard's user manual for any error description that could help me with no success).
Only after reset my computer started to response. Firstly I suspected that it was hardware problem but after short investigation I cam to conclude that it could be also driver or software problem since the computer was stuck only when I tried to invoke web browser (I tried out Firefox 3 beta, Firefox 2 and Galeon).

Few hardware details:
CPU: Intel core 2 duo E8200
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6
Memory: Kingston 2GB DDRII 800Mhz.
Disk: Western Digital 250G.
Video Card: Gigabyte 8400GS with 256MG GDDR2
Wireless Ethernet card: Edimax EW-7128G.

Few drivers details:

I am not an ubuntu user may would like to focus on bios and interrupts.

can you post
cat /proc/interrupts pls

2) can you confirm how you have set up your bios....namely disable pnp bios settings...allow auto irqs....and pls enable apic and not pic.

3) I do appreciate your trouble shooting....I do....but I prefer to eliminate it more completely...I love to be wrong cos that means its your software eh?

2. I will recheck the pnp settings but, as I remember they are disable.

in addition I would like to add that I can use my computer with no problem untill I invoke firefox or any other graphical browser.
I can surf the net with no problem when I'm using w3m from console.

Thanks again ^_^

thats good errors 0, you have some irq sharing but none for i8042 serio kb or mouse or eth0
so you truly have eliminated hw unless someone can see where I am wrong?

apic shows up as well so you are not using pic which gives less irqs.

2) onto locales, localization and kb layouts

can you post that part of your /etc/X11/xorg.conf mentions of kb and mouse

3) can you post your /etc/locale or /etc/sysconfig/i18n or keyboard and what country are you in....and do you know exactly what kb model you have....you know qwerty or other...us 104 key etc

Problem SOLVED

Hi aus,
I wanted to say thank you for your help ( so far the problem is solved )
All I did is to change the keyboard layout from 105 keys to 104 keys generic.

looks like your right at the end it was hardware related problem ^_^
