Question Problem mirroring an X session

Hello folks!

I hope you can help my out with this:

My goal is it to turn my old Debian box into a multimedia center - directly feeding my LCD TV through VGA.

In order to be able to control the X session on this computer rather conveniently I'm planning to 'mirror' the session onto my laptop via wifi [ergo - using it as a remote control].

The last few days I've been putting some effort into trying to realize this with VNC. Without success.
I never managed to actually 'join' the session which opened up after an init 5 boot. Besides - the quality on the client side leaves a lot to be desired.

Do you have any ideas concerning the 'mirroring' of an X session?
About the VNC [tightvnc] configuration - or maybe even a totally different approach to this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Regards from Vienna

try looking up nxserver, it may help you. The open source version is called FreeNX.
