please help: after update, programs and windows no longer function properly
hello everyone,
i'm a relative newbie so this is all still new to me. i posted on the newbie forum, but i haven't gotten much help.
i recently did a security update of some sort and now my programs and windows don't function properly. when i try to run programs, they seem like they are initializing but then they shut down. it's the same with windows. if either do open properly, they don't last very long - they shut down after a few minutes, especially when i try to do things within the window. this is the case for all programs and windows that i have tried using.
i don't know how to get the proper error report to post here, and i want to solve the problem so that i don't have to reinstall my entire system. i looked in synaptic package manager to get a history of the updates but nothing was recorded. unfortunately, i don't know what the updates were so i don't know exactly what was done to the system. (how can i find this out?)
any help solving this problem would be greatly appreciated. as i said, i'm a relative newbie so i don't know how to do much yet on linux/ubuntu. i'm still learning.
if this is not the correct place to post this, please tell me the best place to put it.
