Persistent tiles on desktop

I am running KDE with current slackware. When viewing PDF files with the Adobe viewer, there were some tiled thumbnails which popped over the PDF viewer window. Later, when the viewer was terminated, the tiles remained.

It's not clear to me what is happening, and I am unable to get rid of them.

Any insight from anyone as to what is happening?

Thanks.

Why are you using Adobe Acrobat?

Why not Okular?

Yes.

I have had no compelling reason to use Okular.
