P2P File sharing clients

Hey guys my name is aaron and I have been reading about linux alot latley, I am growing more and more against windows and wanted to try out a version of linux that I read about called linspire, I was getting ready to purchase but the only thing stopping me is that my favorite program which is ares p2p is not compatable, I was wondering if I can get any feedback on linspire and maybe some feedback on a linux p2p that has chat rooms built in. Any help would be great :)

I don't use p2p, so I can't help with that.

Linspire...why would you want to pay for Linspire, when you can get as good or better Linux distributions for free? Check out this thread. It's a little tough to read through the whole thing, but browse it.

Try a Fedora Core, Debian, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, or one of the 300+ free Linux distros. The *buntu's will run off a LiveCD, so you can try them without installing them to your hard drive.

I have heard that Linspire is making their distribution available as a free download under the name Freespire. I have looked at freespire.org. It looks like this might be true. The best thing about this distro is that it makes certain proprietary drivers available which typically don't come on other Linux distributions. Check out this web site.

I haven't tried this out. I don't mind not being able to play a commerical DVD movie or play Windows Media Player format stuff. You can add this functionality to other Linux distributions but I just don't bother. On the other hand these features might be important to potential Windows converts. In that case having a Linux distribution that does everything that Windows does on a workstation would be good. So, try out Freespire since it's free. Let us know how it works out.

While ares is not compatible with linux, you can get giFT, then install an ares plugin. You will be able to get on the ares network with this and a bunch of other p2p networks aswell.

i'm a newbie too, but have you googled "ares p2p linux"? there are so many distros out there and packs that i'm sure you can get your ares or another p2p. ubuntu 6.06.1 is great live distro and there are tons more to play with too. read up on them and download the iso's and just play. it's taken me several months to totally convert and dump windows. i can't stop bragging about linux here. plus, you get into some of these great forums where you can ask for help and receive it instead of getting dumped on for being a newb. good choice and good question. let me know how it works out.
