Arrow open a command in new terminal?

Hi,

How can I run a command in a separate terminal? I.e. I would like to open a new term window, and send a particular execution string to it...

Thanks!

Hya,

look for -e option (xterm).

Happy Penguins!

PS. I am somewhat confused reading your post and signature/profile.

hi,

thanks for quick reply. to clarify - I have a daemon that I would like to start from desktop shortcut, but I need to see the debug output from it in real time. I've tried the -e option, the new terminal comes up and shuts itself down instantly. so, something like 'xterm -e /usr/bin/blah -option -option' does not work

OK, I have a desktop link that opens a vncviewer for my big box upstairs. vncviewer needs a password, so I need to run it in a terminal window (much like you need).

I did it like this with KDE:
R-Click Desktop
Create New .... Link to Application.
Under the
General Tab: Click the icon, choose a new one. Rename "Link to Application" to something better
Application Tab: Enter a description, enter the command you need. Then Click "Advanced" and check the box[*] Run in Terminal

Click [OK]

Try it ?

I expect gnome has something similar.

Hello,

I think this will work:

xterm -e sh -c <your command + args here>

Ciao,
