Question Nvidia Optimus and Bumblebee Project, Finally Working?

Hello,

I am just wondering if Nvidia Optimus it is now working fine on linux since I had issue with that like almost a year ago when installing Debian on my laptop and had to go back to Win7 because of it. Even that in that time there was a project called bumblebee that was made for this issue but, it did not seem to work too good since it make my laptop over heat since it seems that fan on Nvidia card did not work right the right way.

Now, I had read today on bumblebee project website and it seems that they rewrite all project and there is a new version release from the end of April of this year, so, I just wanted to make sure if this time this project works 100% since I don't want to waste my time installing Debian for nothing again and even worst to be force to get back on Win7 since it seems to be the only OS to deal with this Optimus Technology.

http://www.bumblebee-project.org/

Did any one tried this project? Can anyone confirm me that is working fine now, just to let you know my laptop computer is an Acer Aspire 5747G and the NVIDIA Card is >> NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 540M with Optimus Technology.

I will appreciate any help, since I really want to get rid of Win7 and go back to Debian.

If Bumblebee Project it is not the solution then what about in Linux Kernel or new Wheezy Debian version is the issue fix there?

Thanks!!

Hey TommyC7,

thanks for the reply, so, this new version from April works fine? How long you have been using it?

Can you confirm please?

If you're referring to bumblebee version 3.2.1, yes I've been using it for quite some time now (been using bumblebee overall since the end of the summer of last year).

I use it to mainly play Guild Wars 2, Starcraft 2 and Team Fortress 2. I use the intel GPU for other games.

You would have to check out the bumblebee page to see which distributions they support.
