NS-2 Installation - NAM & tk8.5 issues

Im trying to install NS-2 on Ubuntu 10.04 and it worked like a dream.

Installed it hundreds of times on lots of other distros, Ive got 16 instances running on AWS EC2, all merrily computing my network project.

I have never used NAM before and one of my students asked me about it.

Trying to install it, I get the error that tells me

Code:
configure: error: Installation of tk seems incomplet or can't be found automatically
Wonder of wonders, I thought.
I know, Ill follow the instructions and give it the path name it asks for.

Code:
./configure --with-tk=/home/downloads/ns-allinone-2.35/tk8.5.10/library
... and ... nothing.
Same error.

I deleted the path names from the environment locations
Deleted the lot and started again
So, I reinstalled TK and TCL.
Added the
Code:
export TCL_LIBRARY
lines
and tried again.

Still the same cant find TK error.

I could do with some suggestions on where to look next please.

Thankyou

Welcome to LQ.

Compiling individual applications from ns-allinone-2.35 is difficult.
Something changed to the worse. No problems with versions 2.26 .. 2.34.

Anyway, the best nam version is 1.14, it's portable and partly static.
Version 1.15 will have dependencies making things more difficult.
An executable nam -1.14 will work on an OS with no tcl, tk, ns2.

64bits https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7S2...it?usp=sharing
.. Unpack, and copy 'nam' to /usr/local/bin/
