no sound in KDE, but on console

Hi,

i've installed Kubuntu. Everthing about sound works fine the first time.
After reboot I have the following situation:

Sound via aplay ist playing well when logging in in tty.

When I log in to KDE and play sound (via aplay, KDE-Application
or else ...), then I hear no sound,
but when I switch to console with Strg+Alt+F1...6
then I hear the sound on the console.

the same effect after reinstalling 2nd time.

I've Ubuntu 12.04 tls, and intel-hda onboard sound.

Any suggestions?

best regards

In the kde menu, there is an icon for master volume. It's the one you need. Expand the Window that comes up and raise the master volume to maximum. Use your speaker knobs or whatever app your using to control the volume. The one you need is buried in the menues, and it's exact location differs in each version of kde.

Other then that, kde is a fine environment which can be customized more easily then any other environment.

If kubuntu just won't cooperate, try downloading linux mint 13 with KDE. It's very polished and doesn't have that glitch

One thing to note about Kubuntu is that sound channels are often muted by default. Sometimes those muted channels are not displayed by default, either. After un-muting them, you might want to make sure that you have the session manager set such that it won't be muted the next time you log in (the options for starting with a new session, last session, etc.). Sometimes, with certain session settings, you have to log out and log back in a couple of times to save your preferences.
