No log files entries

Hi Guys,

I use an f16 (sounds cool..I know !! lol) desktop, recently i noticed that there are no log entries being written to /var/log/messages or /var/log/secure files, syslogd process is running...and root has rw permissions on those files,

Also this is what i got when i did an lsof on /var/log/messages

lsof |grep /var/log/messages
lsof: WARNING: can't stat() fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon file system /home/user/.gvfs
Output information may be incomplete.
abrt-dump 1023 root 4r REG 253,1 0 5696 /va

Does anyone know what abrt-dump process is ?

Would it prevent from log files being written ?

Any thoughts on what would cause this...??

Any help would be appreciated....

Thanks
Sam

Ah...thanks for the links bigrigdriver !!! after reading the syslog doc, i realized that i also need the rsyslog service, which wasn't running on my system, probably something killed it when i did an update on the system.....so I restarted rsyslog service and and here comes the logs....so awesome !

To anyone else who looks at this post, this is what i did:

#systemctl restart rsyslog.service
#chkconfig rsyslog on

Thank You
Sam
