Here is the results of lspci while in the live Manjaro. It is already installed so it was no problem with drives not showing up during installation.

If anyone is still watching this thread..

I decided to try to install Robolinux 64 bit from a dvd. Don't ask why Robolinux. I was looking for a quick xfce and it seemed as good as any to try. I didn't buy all the hype on the web site and I didn't make a donation. Anyhooo...

The drive and partitions showed up. I tried to format a partition as ext3, ext4, and XFS and install but alas the formatting failed on all three types. I still have Win 7, PCLOS, and Manjaro. Don't plan on getting rid of them. I bought the box with 7 on it and added the other two with no problem It is just funny (odd) that nothing else that I have tried will install. Most I have tried don't even see the drive and partitions. I have tried more than a half dozen (most all have been tried from usb and not dvd/cd). Trying to keep from creating too many coaster from cds/dvds.

Sorry, this thread got away from me.

Not sure I understand if it is fixed or not. I do see where the suspect is that at one time the other poster may have had a GPT. That seems unlikely as you have windows 7 on it and other distros' work fine.

Since both are from some recycle place it could be any collection of what not's.

You can most likely live with virtual machines under windows or linux to run other OS's.

Actually I can live with what I have, but I will from time to time try to get another distro to install just to see what happens. I still use my 32 bit machine for my day to day computing. I also multiboot it but mainly I use PCLOS KDE and like to learn from the others also. My Win 7 is used mostly to run Quickbooks. I have some friends that need help from time to time with QB and they run Win 7. If I ever find a definite solution then I will try to remember to post back. At 71, the memory is not as sharp as it once was.

thanks again for the help,
Harold
