Need to find config file for gdm login screen on Ubuntu 11.04 'natty'
My computers are running Gnome on Ubuntu 11.04 'natty', and have been upgraded from several earlier Ubuntu versions. I generally customize the login screen background and other features. In earlier versions, it was possible with the login screen utility (for example System/Administration/Logon Screen) to specify some text and an icon in the login dialog, but it isn't possible any more with that dialog or with Ubuntu Tweak to change the text. Now I am left with a line of text in the Gnome login dialog referring to a previous Ubuntu version. The current Login Screen and Ubuntu Tweak programs don't seem to save their settings under /etc/gdm anymore. With Ubuntu Tweak, I can only change the icon in the login dialog and the icon at the left of the top panel - and I don't know where these are saved in the file system. I did a fairly extensive search, especially under /etc, and found nothing.
Thank you, 9sd. Actually, lightdm is used in Ubuntu 11.10, but not in 11.04, which still uses gdm. (I just double-checked on 11.04 and 11.10 computers). So this is not a solution, unfortunately.

Take a look on my English Ubuntu site. There you find a solution called GDM2Setup. This will do the trick for you.
I still get this when I run apt-get update after adding that ppa repository. I think this just isn't available for natty. Possibly there was a change between 10.10 and 11.04 (natty), possibly due the the configuration moving from something under /etc/gdm to a Gnome 2 database (which it is in Natty). (But it still isn't lightdm yet). Error messages again, when running apt-get update:
